Demography becomes an economic topic

Demography is no longer a social topic. It becomes an economic topic.
Today the first meeting of the Team was held in support of the preparation of the National and Regional Partnership Plan for Poland for the years 2028–2034.

This is an important moment, because the new perspective will not be determined solely around the question of how many resources will go to individual areas, but increasingly around what development processes the state wants to really strengthen.

From the perspective of the Association of Employers, the Green Business Responsibility Initiative (IZOB) is of particular importance, that the issues of competitiveness, resilience, energy transformation, territorial cohesion and institutional quality are at the heart of the discussion. It will be in these areas in the coming years that business conditions, the availability of competences, the costs of operating companies and the ability of the economy to maintain sustainable growth will determine.

It is also becoming clearer that demography cannot be treated exclusively as a social policy issue.

Its effects today are seen in the basic economic parameters:
1️⃣ in labour supply,
2️⃣ in the availability of competences,
3️⃣ in cost pressure,
4️⃣ in productivity,
5️⃣ in the development capacity of regions and enterprises.

This means that the discussion on demography is also a discussion on competitiveness, labour market, investment, automation and sustainability of the growth model.

Therefore, the preparation of PPKR should take into account not only the classical axes of support, but also the real relationships between: demography, productivity, energy, economic security, competence and territorial resilience.

The new development policy should not merely be a redistribution mechanism. It should be a tool for building long-term competitiveness, resilience and adaptability of the Polish economy.
